Radiohead - In Rainbows [2007] Buy the cd at any price?

Fans choose their price for new album. Which is absolutely mindblowing-great-idea. How come no-one else thought about it for let's say 7 years back?

In an age where digital music sales outweigh those of physical sales, Radiohead made a bright step regarding digital music. Last sunday Radiohead announced that they will sell their new album, "In Rainbows" via their website. Well, so far so good. Nothing new around here. The catch (which is great marketing)? The fans decide what they want to pay for the new album! They can even opt to pay nothing (True fan my arse :) ).

The album is currently in two forms; One will be a digital download in which the customer will be able to name their own price, and the other is a "discbox" which includes the In Rainbows CD, a bonus CD from the recording sessions, a vinyl edition of In Rainbows contained in two vinyl records, and a hardcover book.

For now Radiohead might consider adding some web-techies to their staff. After the opening of the pre-sale, the website crashed as many fans logged on the website. No worries though..site is up and running, so hop on down to radiohead.com and get that cd..

Curious which band/artist might do the same...
